Ella's Corner--5 Ways To Save Money During The Holidays
Welcome back to Ella’s Corner. Today I want to share with you five different ways to save money during the holidays.
1. Waste not, want not. If you have leftovers, transform them into an epic meal! Try to conserve as much food as possible by combining different flavors to make each meal special and one of a kind--just like you. You can make easy meals that look (and taste) way more fancy than they actually are. For example, you can make stuffed-turkey. Take your leftover turkey and cut it to your preferred size. On the side, cut a slot in the center to create a pocket Then, add stuffing, veggies, whatever extra food you may have (within reason) into the pocket. You can warm it up or eat it cold!
2. Make homemade gifts and cards. Cards can be really expensive, so why not just make your own? There are thousands of ways to easily make a homemade card. For example, you can use a simple peice of brown construction paper, green construction paper, pencil, glue and an exacto knife. Fold your brown paper in half, trace the outline of a Christmas tree, and fill it in with lines spaced a centimeter apart. Make sure to have a detached star on the top! Using your exacto-knife, cut on the lines and cut-out the star at the top. Pull all of the cut-lines forward for a pop-out effect. Fold the green paper in half, and glue the two papers together, so that the inside has the brown pop-out tree and the outside has green. An easy card, for super cheap!
3. DIY your own Christmas tree! Even if you don't celebrate Christmas, a little tree can be a cute addition to your holiday decor. Just use some wire to attach pine branches to a log and you’ve got yourself a tree! You can find these fake pine branches at a local craft store (during holiday seasons) or you can find some real ones at a tree-farm. Attach these to a log or base (such as two connected soda cans or a Pringles can) using hot glue or tacky glue. Let dry--and then you have the perfect tree!
4. Wrapping paper can be really expensive, so try using newspaper or an old letter to wrap your gifts. This can give a really antique look to your gifts. Also, you can make your own wrapping paper using a large sheet of colorful paper. Dip the bottom of a pine cone in paint (brown backdrop, green paint works well--but any other colors do!) Stamp the pine cone in various places on the wrapping paper and let dry. You're ready to wrap!
5. This one is really...unique. Take some branches and use some dark brown wire to strap them together. Now you’ve got yourself some fresh merch to wear for the holidays. This is a creative hack, and something create to wear for ugly-sweater holiday parties.
