Hosting During The Holidays--Friends
Of all the most stressful jobs of the holidays, planning and hosting a perfect holiday party is definitely near the top. In most cases, the host usually has the least fun out of concern of any holiday grinches, catering mishaps, political arguments, etc. In part one of this two part article, I will discuss and offer tips on how to host an amazing holiday party to the best of your abilities.
No matter what you celebrate during this time, the holidays are a time to bring friends together and create special, unbreakable bonds. Despite all the fun, the job of hosting is undeniable pressure, especially when it comes to friend parties. The first thing to remember is to stay calm. Panicking will not only cause personal stress but also stress among your guests. Some strategies to use to find your inner zen is to take breaks and try taking deep breaths. Weather this is before or during the party doesn't matter- just that you take the time to do it.
Another calming strategy is to take a 15-30 minute nap before the start of the party. After the nap you should have about another half hour to complete any finishing touches and to change. So for example your schedule might look like this:
11:00am-1:00pm setup
1:00pm-1:30pm nap
1:30pm-1:59 finishing touches
2:00pm start of party
Though this is incredibly simple, in times of stress it's easy to forget the simplest things. It’s also important to remember that true friends will notice if you are a state of stress. Don't be afraid to ask for their help. The final tip I will give you in part one is you should leave your laptop (or any electronic device with Netflix access), earbuds, and a box of chocolates hidden in a cabinet in your bathroom so in case of emergency, you can just lock yourself in and rekindle your sanity. Use these tips to rock your hosting job and throw the best holiday party ever for your friends.
